Patrick Phillips: Profile

Patrick Phillips has taught extensively in sixth form and further education colleges and is currently responsible for A Level Film Studies as Chief Examiner, having written the new national syllabus, which began to be taught in schools and colleges in September 2000. His principal interests are in the area of meaning and response, the relationship between film text and spectator, as well as in film historiography, aspects of world cinema and political / counter cinema. His Understanding Film Texts was published by the British Film Institute in 2000. He has contributed chapters to Jill Nelmes (ed.) Introduction to Film Studies (1999) and is currently working on a new book to be published by Arnold on issues in teaching and learning about film.
