Pajaczkowska - String
Textile: The Journal of Cloth and Culture
Special issue on String edited by Pennina Barnett and Claire Pajaczkowska vol. 5, no. 2, July 2007, 128pp, illus, ISBN 9781845206185
This special issue of Textile: The Journal of Cloth and Culture focuses on String, literally and metaphorically, for the emotions it evokes and the ideas it sets in motion. Just as anthropologist Claude Levi Strauss famously noted that myths are ‘good to think with’ – by which he meant that it is in the patterns of the story, and the relationships between characters, actions and objects that we find a ‘map’ of a world – so it is useful to think about string in both a functional and symbolic way.
