On 13th December 2006 the John Hansard Gallery , the Parkes Institute for Jewish / non-Jewish relations at Southampton University and the Dept. of Art, Philosophy and Visual Culture at Middlesex University will be hosting a one day symposium on Holocaust tourism at the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton, UK. This will coincide with itourist? , an international billboard and web blog project that uses photography to explore the role of the visual in the commodification of the Holocaust, the experience of Holocaust tourism and the way in which contemporary Jewish identities are often experienced or partially constituted through representations of the Holocaust. The billboards will be simultaneously displayed in Prague, Southampton and London. The project is supported by the John Hansard Gallery, Museum of Domestic Art and Architecture, London; and the Prague Center for Contemporary Art.
