GOLDEN

Trialogue

Friday 20 October 2006, 3 – 4.30pm, Beaconsfield, London

susan pui san lok

Trialogue was curated by susan pui san lok, structured as a conversation in English between 3 curators, or curatorial perspectives, and taking the conjunction of the terms ‘nostalgia, aspiration, diaspora’ as a point of departure. The discussion was accompanied by simultaneous, makeshift Cantonese translation, by the artist. Co-edited with the artist, and annotated by the event’s chair, Joanne Morra, the transcripts have generated an experimental collaborative text, Trialogue/Quintet, which will appear in the forthcoming AHRC-funded artist’s book, Golden (Notes).

Speakers:
  • Sonia Boyce (artist and Associate Lecturer, Central St Martins College, University of the Arts)
  • Irit Rogoff (Professor of Visual Cultures, Goldsmiths College, University of London)
  • Naomi Siderfin (Associate Director, Beaconsfield)
Cantonese translation:
  • susan pui san lok (artist and Research Associate, Middlesex University)
Chair:
  • Joanne Morra (Reader in Art History & Theory, Central St Martins College, University of the Arts)

Trialogue formed part of Golden (Lessons), an exhibition and research residency at Beaconsfield, London, punctuated by a series of live events and performance interventions. Golden (Lessons) took up motifs of ballroom and song as vehicles of nostalgia, aspiration and cultivation, continuing an ongoing series of works exploring nostalgia, aspiration and diaspora, under the rubric Golden.
