Golden (Songs) extracts and arranges sung utterances of the word ‘golden’ from Western songs featuring the term in their title, the resulting ‘songs’ a series of strange interludes at once plaintive, joyful and wistful. Click here for sampled tracks.
Golden (Songs) was initiated during Electric Greenhouse (February – April 2005), a three-month digital arts residency in London hosted by b3 media in collaboration with artquest. The first out of three audio pieces in an ongoing series was featured in ‘Lightsilver’ (Beaconsfield, London, 23 February – 8 May 2005), while all three were showcased at the ICA, London, as part of the black:creativity programme (2005), alternating with the video/soundwork, Golden (Vistas). Songs featured in both Golden, a solo exhibition at Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester (11 May – 2 July, 2006), and Golden (Lessons), an exhibition and residency at Beaconsfield (18 October – 10 November 2006).
