BUNGALOW BLITZ

Oral Histories

This section contains short written and oral excerpts from Joanne Lacey’s interviews with Paul and Rose Byrne, Síle Mooney, Danny Gillespie and Margaret Doherty all from the parishes of Kilcar, Carrick or Glencolmcille in southwest Donegal.

The interviews were conducted in 2001 and 2002 and are here read by Michael Sherin. Excerpts from these interviews, together with clips from archival radio and television programmes and narrated letters and articles from the Irish media were included in a soundscape installed as part of the exhibition Bungalow Blitz: Another History of Irish Architecture II at the Lighthouse, Scotland’s centre for Architecture, Design and the City in 2006.

Excerpts from Joanne Lacey’s interview transcripts formed the basis of a series of paintings by Jim Grant included in the first exhibition of the series at MoDA, in 2001.
